Fraser Canyon Backroads

Lytton, British Columbia4.6

The run

Trail report

Above Lytton, where the Thompson meets the Fraser, the backroads claw their way up canyon walls of loose talus and baked rock. It's relentless, technical climbing where tire placement and momentum are everything.

The views are the payoff: the great gorge of the Fraser winding away below, sagebrush hills to the west, and rail lines hugging the canyon walls.

This is remote, hot, and unforgiving country — carry twice the water you think you need and full recovery gear. Late summer can hit 40°C, so start at first light.
