The spot

About this campsite

Spray Lakes West Campground stretches along the unpaved Smith-Dorrien Trail (Hwy 742), offering rustic, shoreline camping with sweeping water and mountain views.

This unserviced first-come, first-served campground is extremely popular with overlanders, paddleboarders, windsurfers, and anglers.

Expect dusty gravel road access and wildlife corridor cautions — bear activity is frequent, so strict food storage protocols are enforced.

What makes it worth the drive

  • First-come first-served
  • Shoreline camping
  • High-altitude reservoir
  • Overland gravel access

Super clean vault toilets, amazing mountain reflection on the reservoir. The gravel road up is rough but well worth the drive.
