The spot

About this campsite

Tunnel Mountain Village I is a traditional frontcountry beast. With over 600 unserviced sites, it’s one of the largest campgrounds in the national park system. Despite the size, the mature pine forest provides excellent privacy between pads.

This is an ideal first stop for overlanders arriving in Banff. You get hot showers, easy access to town via the local Roam transit, and a front-row seat to iconic mountains. Fire permits are required if you plan on burning.

Reservations are fiercely competitive when Parks Canada opens the portals in January. If you show up in summer without a booking, you will likely be turned away.

Huge campground but well run. Great to park the rig and just take the bus into town for dinner so we didn't lose our spot.
