Preacher's Point Staging Area - Abraham Lake (Bighorn PLUZ)
The spot
About this campsite
Preacher's Point is situated at the southern tip of Abraham Lake along the David Thompson Highway (Hwy 11), approximately 60 km west of Nordegg and 30 km east of Saskatchewan River Crossing. It serves as a primary gateway to the Bighorn Backcountry and Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve.
This free-flowing river delta turns into a striking turquoise reservoir by late summer. The staging node offers flat, gravel shoreline camping suitable for everything from rooftop tent overland rigs to large travel trailers, with panoramic views of Mount Michener and Elliott Peak.
Camping is governed by the Alberta Public Land Camping Pass ($30/year per adult). Primitive vault toilets and bear lockers are provided. Motorized driving on the exposed lakebed is strictly prohibited from April 30 to December 1.
